American Football is Back

World, you had your turn. The World Cup thrilled us this summer, but our hearts belong to American football, and its sights and sounds. Sundays in this country are devoted to watching a brutal dance, where giants don suits of armor and, after the quarterback calls "Hike!," they essentially try to get to the other side of each other. Then, they regroup, line up, and do it again.
Our NFL Preview is pretty simple. It's a quarterback-driven league: last year's Super Bowl teams were led by Drew Brees and League MVP Peyton Manning. Yes, a franchise quarterback is worth his weight in gold, and depending on what part of the country you're in, the League's best is up for debate. In no particular order, these are the titans of the industry: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Brett Favre. It's no coincidence that they are the faces that are in the postseason every year; look for their teams to make it deep into the playoffs again this season.
So you heard it here: the Colts of Indy, New Englad's Patriots in the AFC. The Who Dat Saints of New Orleans and the Vikings of Minnesota are the teams to beat.

Can the new-look Baltimore Ravens, or the Houston Texans and their high-octane offense, finally break through in the AFC? The San Diego Chargers seem to be one or two plays away every year. The Jets have hired a slew of mercenaries to come play for them, and enter the season with more hype than any team in recent memory. Yet, something tells me that the Dolphins are more dangerous: they have quietly built a young team as talented as any in the tough AFC East.
The NFC looks pretty locked up, but the Washington Redskins brought in Mike Shanahan and quarterback Donovan McNabb to run his offense -- it'll be interesting to see what happens in the Nation's Capitol. Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers has been living in Brett Favre's shadow for years, but he's a good player in his own right, and looks to prove it. The Falcons and Bears have unpredictable but very skilled QBs who could get hot. And never count out the Cowboys, who have some big names at the skill positions.
Finally, the Tennessee Titans have a pretty damn good signal caller of their own. Vince Young combines arm strength, size, and athleticism unlike any other player in the league. He and record-breaking offensive dynamo RB Chris Johnson could have the Titans in the hunt.
