Andre Dawson Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame

Andre Dawson, the one they call "The Hawk," who spent 10 seasons as a Montreal Expo, and was a fan favorite in Chicago in the late 80's, has been elected to the Basebal Hall of Fame.

Andre Dawson (above) was a career .278 hitter, an 8-time All-Star, 8-time Gold Glove winner, the 1977 Rookie of the Year, and the 1987 National League MVP. He finished with 438 home runs, 2,774 hits, and 1,591 RBIs in 21 Major League seasons.
Now, when I say a "fan favorite" in Chicago, I don't just mean his winning personality -- though he was known as one of the gentleman of the game. You don't get to pose for this photo unless you can play.

My favorite Andre Dawson story goes as follows: before the 1987 season, Dawson was intent on joining the Cubs, only the team's owner refused to sign him. So Dawson and his agent just showed up to the Cubs' Spring training facility, and handed the owner a blank contract, indicating that he would join the Cubs at literally any price. So, Andre Dawson, a 10-year veteran and 3-time All-Star, played his MVP season for a grand total of $750,000. This past year's National League MVP Albert Pujols made $16million.
