According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, the average NFL football game is jam-packed with (ready for this?) eleven minutes of actual hard-hitting football action. Funny, because as any NFL junkie will tell you, an average game takes around 3 hours to sit through. So, where does all that time go? Here's a quick breakdown:
As you might have guessed, one entire hour goes to commercials. Not so bad when they're funny, like during the Super Bowl. But beyond paying the television network's bills, the overwhelming majority of game footage goes to the very exciting business of players standing around.

You might also be surprised (or not) that more time is devoted to replays than actual plays.
But then again...
This is where even the die-hard football fan has to admit that soccer, or as I like to call it, Metric football, has it over its US counterpart. Yes, American football fans, Metric football does not interrupt game play for television commercials. But the NFL is not short on excitement, and you know what? Sometimes, it's nice having designated time during which one can roam freely from the couch to the fridge, the rest room... Well, that's pretty much it, those two things. But still nice...
