EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Damian Marley and Nas Bring Heat to Levi's Fader Fort At Austin

The Levi's® FADER FORT heated up last night (Wednesday, May 17th) as surprise guests Nas and Damian “JR Gong” Marley (youngest son of Bob Marley) erupted on stage to kick off the first day of Fader Fort - the 5-day mini music festival sponsored by Fader Magazine and Levi's® that coincides with Austin's SXSW. (The secret was kept well; all day rumors swirled that anyone from Lady Gaga to Justin Timberlake was gonna show up. {FYI Justin wasn't in the house.})
NAS
It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since they teamed up for "Road to Zion ," off Marley's Welcome to Jamrock. But they're in Austin, Texas to debut tracks of their yet to be released collaboration, Distant Relatives, (set for an April release), a tribute to their African roots. Based on their show here at SXSW, it's gonna be well worth the wait.
DAMIAN MARLEY
Though they look like an odd couple - Nas with a blinigng gold watch the size of a golf ball - and Marley with his down-to-his-knees dreads, it's clear their friendship runs deep, on and off the stage.
Their music is a pretty package - Nas’ fast-flung word play melds with Marley’s loose reggae dub-rock. They've got swaying female dancers, a DJ, and a congo drummer to keep the tempo up. Having no difficulty getting the crowd amped up, Nas shouted "This feels like a family reunion out here, Austin, Texas!”

A moving moment? During “Road to Zion” they had the crowd hold up lighters faithfully. There was magic in the air.
The money they make from DISTANT RELATIVES will go to building a school in the Congo. Well worth the cause.
