The weather in NY has been hot as [fill in blank here]; there's simply no glamorous way to describe it. Hitting record highs in the hundreds for days now, it has been so hot that a New York Times reporter tried to fry an egg on the sidewalk just to see if he could make the old adage come true. It's so hot that there's little else you can do than A) flee into (i.e. inevitably freeze in) air conditioning or B) dance your pants off till you forget you're hot-as-[blank] overheated.
Option B seems like the preferred choice for the crowds thus far at New York's Summerstage, the annual performance series that brings in diverse acts from all over the world to perform on a broad stage neatly tucked into the center of leafy Central Park. This is where we caught the Latin American electro-act Nortec Collective Presents Bostich + Fussible on Wednesday night, July 7th, performing in their Tijuana-friendly plus high-tech finest - from cowboy hats, an intense computerized mixing board, i-pads (or what looked like i-pads), even tenori's- nifty little techno gadgets which modifies beats based on human touch while glittering pretty in the musician's palm. The concert was part of the Latin Alternative Music Conference that has infiltrated the city this week - sponsoring Latin American concerts to spread the word about up-and-coming Latin acts, while hosting music industry panels and cocktail hours around the city. Judging from the animated crowd, it succeeded as a carefree respite from the sauna-like conditions:
