Generally speaking, we're a joyful bunch over here at JustinTimberlake.com, but sometimes, tales of frustration and disillusionment move us to a point where we just have to share them with you.
So here's Freddie Gibbs: unerring in his honesty, angry in the face of social inequity and courageously defiant in his rhyming.
Did we mention that this cat raps really fast when he's working to hammer his point home? (He's not afraid to curse a whole bunch either, just so you know).
Here's "National Anthem". We dare you not to be moved enough to "wave your fingers if you're feelin' the same":
"National Anthem" is taken from the Gary, Indiana native's new EP Str8 Killa, which is out now through Decon Records/Gibbs Family. And it's powerful stuff. We recommend you watch this guy because he's definitely destined for bigger things.

“ Oh, and when you said "wave your fingers in the air" -- I was thinking more of the flirty kind of finger-wave "goodbye" you give to your BOYfriend or something. NOT quite in the middle "finger" zone, my mind. Much less cussing than, oh, anyone in Eminem's band -- who's name which escapes me right now. I say he's a winner -- it's a HIT. Oh, and I think prison is not safe for hurt SOULS, any more than a BAD hospital IS for the sick. Poverty is hard if you don't eat, or get enough care if you need a doctor, or just dealing with cruelty one human being inflicts upon another. It can make the brightest Spirit sad. And you get crap jobs if the neighborhood is crapped up too. ”
“ Great! He ROCKS it.. Do you know I misread "this cat raps really fast" for "HIS cat raps really fast"? I thought you were making a funny! An aside though . . . has he really been in jail 4 times? That's what I took the 4 "f*ck it"s to mean. Glad somebody signed him. I imagine myself in a Huomong prison singin' the same thing as he. I'd feel JUST as displaced as a French-Persian Belizian as HE did stuck in a completely white run southern prison. OR is "misplaced" the word. "Misplaced" by his people. "Folk" as one likes to call them. Prison is weird. Hospitals want sick people to get better, why not prisons? ”
