Glastonbury: Behind The Mud & Music

The Glastonbury Music Festival kicked off on the 24th of June, to a roaring crowd of 177,000. That's right, 177,000. Known for its eclectic lineups, die-hard crowds, and schizophrenic weather, Glastonbury is bound to be just as unpredictable this year as the last.
This year, headlining the festival is Blur, joined by rock 'n roll greats Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young (a jump from last year's somewhat controversial headliner Jay-Z, but he brought the house down.) Femme dance sensations Lady Gaga, Little Boots and LadyHawke, indie muses Passion Pit, La Roux, Calvin Harris, Maximo Park, Franz Ferdinand, The Klaxons, Bloc Part and Peter Bjorn and John. Phew. (Note all the UK rock pop chicks the we posted about yesterday will be present and accounted for.)

But let's be clear, the experience of Glastonbury isn't just about crowds kumbaya-ing to cool music all day long. Part of the fun is baring the intense conditions: Camping out in dreary weather, partying it up every night and waking completely wrecked in time for the next gig while still looking as slick and calm as Kate Moss. Case in point? (See photo below). It's like being on the cast of Survivor, the UK edition; one can only last so long living in tents, running around in wellies and using port-a-potties.

Jealous yet? If you missed out, you can always keep an eye on Youtube and Twitter (the crowds are on an updating/uploading rampage.) And don't forget to grab tickets next year! It's worth plane, train and automobile to see Glastonbury at least once. And if you're there, fill us in on the action please. :D
