Since the devastating earthquake in Haiti a month and a half ago, the music world has united in fundraising efforts: from the hugely successful "We Are The World 25 For Haiti" single to the wondrous "Hope For Haiti Now" Telethon and iTunes download.
Well, now, enigmatic Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan has brought together a bunch of his mates - who just happen to include Johnny Depp, charismatic alt favorite Nick Cave, punk legends Glen Matlock (of the Sex Pistols) and Mick Jones (of The Clash), indie hero Bobbie Gillespie (of Primal Scream), renowned Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde and eccentric singer-songwriter Paloma Faith, among others - to make their own contribution to the Haiti charity effort.
The result is an absolutely stunning remake of "I Put A Spell On You":
We think it might be the coolest charity single we've ever heard (Ok save Matt Morris and Justin's "Hallelujah" perhaps? But we are NOT biased as at all :) ). Regardless, we hope it raises a ton of cash so that Concern Worldwide can continue their good work in Haiti.
The single's released on March 8 in the UK, but will be available to download in the US via Amazon.com from March 7.
Now we'd just like to see Jennifer Lopez and the cast of "Saturday Night Live" release the version of "We Are The World" they wrote for SNL last week - we particularly enjoyed Bill Hader's hilarious Eddie Vedder impersonation and J-Lo's Rhianna:
Every little helps, folks.
