Last night, March 2nd, 2010, hundreds of artists, stylistas, collectors, and activists came together for the art space Manifest Equality's opening party, held in a huge converted Big Lots on Vine Street in LA. The week-long art show (the pop-up gallery space is opened all through Oscar week - perfect timing, right?) is organized to benefit a very important cause: for FULL & EQUAL RIGHTS for ALL Americans with no exceptions....and more specifically, to encourage people to take action on prop 8.
Trust us: Art activism has never looked so good. Here are some well-dressed people and stunning artworks that caught our attention:
Super Stylish couple:

LEFT: Liz Rizzo (coat & tights: H&M; halter dress: Corey Lynn; shoes: Stuart Weitzman)
RIGHT: RUDJ (vest: vintage; hat: Army Surplus; pants: Dickies; boots: White's)
Over 100 artists including big names such as Shepard Fairey, Buff Monster, Ron English, Clare Rojas, Robbie Conal and Harvey Pekar, dedicated colorful, ambitious pieces for the cause.
The exhibition is filled with positive public artworks such as the one below... How's that for a pep talk?
Ready For A Girls Night Out!

LEFT: Tiger Curran, rapper & stylist assistant (blouse: vintage; denim leggings: J Brand; boots: frye; purse: Gucci; necklace: Liz Pacini Designs)
RIGHT: Jatan Dugar, artist (coat: Zara; t-shirt: James Pesce; headband: Native Boutique; shoes: vintage)

Meanwhile, Primary Flight orchestrated a roaster of talented street artists for the event. We read that the location is now owned by the Academy as the future location for their museum. Something to look forward to....
Activist All The Way...

Andres Rigal: live music booker for the event (t-shirt: special edition Haiti relief t-shirts by Studio Number One)

We fell in love with this portrait of Shirin Ebadi, an Iranian lawyer, human rights activist and founder of Centre for the Defence of Human Rights in Iran.
Were you still looking for a proof that great cameras can serve as fashion accessories? Look how cool these chicks look!

Apparently, Barbies are very much in vogue in the art world lately!

Couldn't help but shoot a self-portrait in this gorgeous broken mirror sculpture....
In a separate room, a heart-shaped light installation was vibrating all night to the sound of the music. Afterall, this event was all about love...
Moral of this story?
Definitely stop by this show if you're in the LA area this week: there are some truly unmissable pieces in there and the music line-up promises to be amazing every night.
The gallery's open to the public from today, Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 through Sunday, March 7th, 2010.
After all, what does equality mean to you?
