What is it about Paris that makes all of its residents seem so damn cool? Do they hand out hip passes at Charles de Gaulle Airport or something? It certainly seems like it - and Miami-born, Paris-based chanteuse Uffie is only adding to the city's legendary mystique.
Having started her career collaborating with the finest DJs France has to offer (Justice included), she's now spreading her wings further afield, and her latest offering - the frenetic, addicting, "A.D.D. S.U.V." - features none other than the always-awesome Pharrell Williams:
Let's just take a moment before we do anything else, to appreciate one of our favourite lyrics of the year so far: "What I say I gotta do again? Minute to minute, I feel like I'm in the movie Memento, but I don't have a pen". Thankyou Pharrell, thankyou...
Uffie's unusual spoken-word rap-stylings are rumored to have been an influence on Ke$ha, and, while that remains unconfirmed (afterall, Ke$ha drove through LA and staged a police arrest in her video for "TiK ToK" months before Uffie did it for "A.D.D. S.U.V."), we like to think of Uffie as the sophisticated fashionista big sister to Ke$ha's wild child adolescent.
Uffie will be spending all summer entertaining Brits, Europeans and Australians with her live show, but we sincerely hope she pays us a visit real soon. In the meantime, we can all enjoy her debut album, Sex Dreams And Denim Jeans, out now on Elektra. We feel more suave, just thinking about it...
