Memphis Tabs New Football Coach, ESPN is Pretty Sure

The University of Memphis recently fired their football coach Tommy West, who made a heartfelt plea to the community to rally around their struggling program. "Give the next guy a fightin' chance," he said, appealing to local media and fans.

Well, by all accounts, Memphis is ready to announce the next guy: Washington Redskins secondary coach Jerry Gray. Bottom line, the man is qualified, and knows what it takes to play in the NFL, which should attract prospective recruits. He was also quite the player himself.

Some career highlights: 1989 Defensive Back of the year, four-time All-Pro in nine NFL seasons, defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills from 2001-05 before joining the Redskins staff as the secondary/cornerbacks coach.

Go get em, Coach.

The Official Redskins Blog did a wonderful interview with Coach Gray back in June. Definitely worth a read for some insight on the coach and the man. But just as an aside: I'm guessing team meetings are, more often than not, going to run long. The man can talk.
