You think you saw the Memphis Tigers win 38 games and go to the Final Four in a magical 2007-08 season... But you really didn't. At least that's what people in the future will see when checking the annals of NCAA Div I Basketball. That's because a member of that year's Memphis team is alleged to have cheated on his SAT, by having someone else take the test on his behalf, prior to his freshman year. That's what we call the ol' switcheroo. And what the NCAA calls against the rules. Maybe it's all for the best for Memphis, cause it means this moment never happened:
With the player in question Derrick Rose making millions in the NBA, and coach-at-the-time John Calipari safely tucked away at his cushy job at Kentucky, no one really knows what impact this will have on anyone involved, if any.
And only time will tell whether ESPN wipes its records clean of Justin's "I Love Sports" ESPYs opening, which mentions that Memphis team, or the subsequent free-throw skit about Memphis falling to Kansas in the Final Four. *Sigh.* Things were so much simpler then...
