29-year-old fashion photographer Milena Rakocevic has an uncanny knack at making every fashion photo feel like a short film; depth, mystery, and old-film glamor lie within each shot. The native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia uses intricate sets, romantic angles, and careful doses of texture and color to set the tone. Inspired by her style, we asked her to select her ten favorite images or photoshoots and to tell us why she loves them so.
Milena Rakocevic's Favorite Photos
1. "This is my favorite photo from a recent editorial titled "Je T'aime Melancolie" (i.e. "I Love Melancholy" in French), starring Georgina Stojiljkovic and other famous Serbian actresses of all time, joining her in the photographs through projections. The story is a tribute to Serbian cinematography, an art that is very dear to me."

2. "The photos below are pulled from an alien-esque editorial titled "Breakfast 2099," a sarcastic take on the future in terms of intergalactic relations. It's freaky!"

4. "This one I love because it is as sensual as it is gloomy."

5. "This pict is from an editorial inspired by Edie Sedgwick. This particular image is my favorite from that shoot; it portrays her passion for horses, which also translate into passion for freedom."

6. "This story has no deeper meaning to it. It made my list of favorites because of the colors... and because it reminds me of liberty."

7. "This series, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock, symbolizes my photo style in a way: moody and nostalgic. Horror movies combined with the golden era of Hollywood... very inspiring for me."

8. "Below is my dolls series, totally retro and kitsch. I love the color treatment and the girly style of that shoot."

9. "The next three photos are pulled from an editorial titled "Love is a losing game" - obviously they were inspired by Amy Winehouse. I shot that three years ago when she was at her peak, outshining every other songstress in the music industry. I love Amy :)"

10. "I love this one because it's sunny, fairy and flickering. She reminds me of a Sicilian girl escaping from her village."
