Since director John Hughes' recently passed away (R.I.P), we've been been reveling in the legacy of his classic feel-good 80s flicks like Pretty In Pink and The Breakfast Club. One constant in his films? Killer 80's pop anthems that to this day inevitably lead to a uncontrollable drop-all-your-bags, rock-your-side-pony-tail, sing-along dance party. (Further proof? Read NME's story, Why John Hughes Movies Would Have Been Nothing Without Their Soundtracks.) Lest we remind you:
Fret not tho - next time you are craving synths and looking for a soundtrack to the ‘80s teen movie permanently running in your head, you should try turning to Passion Pit. The Cambridge, MA, quintet released their debut album, Manners, last May and have been building momentum ever since, thanks to their spritely, but edgy, retro pop.
Observe ‘The Reeling’, a little slice of post-modern wonderment with a bit of an electro disco edge. (Psst the main character reminds us a bit of a skinnier, punk version of dandruff rebel Allison Reynolds (played by Ally Sheedy) from The Breakfast Club.
Since Passion Pit will be doing select live dates across the US on and off for the next three months, you should probably start paying attention. And, if you’re really going to take the ‘80s fantasy full blown, you might as well start looking for a new prom dress too. Puffy sleeves allowed.
