On September 12th, I went to Terminal 5 in Manhattan's west side to see Kid Cudi and Phoenix lay it down for a very worthy cause. For those who don't know, LIFEbeat is the music industry's AIDS charity, and puts on events to promote awareness and support for the AIDS community.

The event was billed as a pre-MTV VMA party (VMA's I'm happy for you and Imma let you finish but this was one of the greatest events of ALL TIME), but it was really an AIDS benefit, which gave the evening a sense of purpose. Baba Booey from the Howard Stern show came out to introduce the bands, and even he was no-nonesense: he took the mic and said a few words about the importance of AIDS awareness. Then, it was on to the music. And the artists did not disappoint.
Here's the view from the VIP balcony. Kid Cudi breaks off some a cappella, then launches into his smash hit 'Day n Night.' Around 1:05, he goes "This is probably the millionth time I've performed this song." Something tells me it won't be the last.
Then, it was Phoenix's turn. I honestly did not realize how big the Frenchies gotten. Everyone in the [mostly younger] crowd knew all the words and sang along. Here's the view from the floor:
(*EDITOR'S NOTE: Psst we have a clutch interview with Pheonix coming later this week.)
Kid Cudi and Phoenix both have new albums out, so check em out.
And be sure to visit LIFEbeat.org to get more info on future events, not to mention the great work they're doing.
Thanks again to LIFEbeat for a wonderful evening.

“I can't believe that you composed this music all on your own. Where do you get your inspiration from?”
- SumitaWhat Goes Around ...Comes Around (Interlude)
“This song reminds me of the people that try to do what is right, but often times give into temptations. But, God is the same way with me and "what he is doing to you what you did to me" evokes that emotion for me. This is my most favorite song and I remember the first time that I heard it on the radio, I just had to pull over and listen to it closely.”
