Don't they say imitation can be the sincerest form of flattery?
While trolling Youtube the other day, we came across the following covers of Justin's hit "Cry Me A River." Since the covers are by international bands of totally disparate styles - (i.e. not rock or pop but punk, hardcore etc..) - and they bring out other aesthetics in the song, often a more moody darker side, visually and musically, they really show how songs can transcend genres, countries, and stereotypes. So we thought we'd post them up and see you what you think?
Lostprophets cover:
The backstory: In 2007, one of the UK's most popular, arena-filling rock bands, Lostprophets, covered the song during a live session for BBC Radio 1. It went on to be such a cult favorite, the radio station had to make it available to download and the Welsh sextet performed it as part of their live set for a while. We're particularly impressed to hear vocalist Ian Watkins hitting all the high notes at the end... and as these things go, one German fan made a video to accompany the recording as seen above.
Florida pop-punkers New Found Glory covered the song (adding a whole bunch of chuggy guitars) for Yahoo Music's Pepsi Smash Cover Art series.
But, definitely the most bizarre cover we've come across so far comes from London Death Metal crew Ten Masked Men - there really are ten of them too! (Un)holy demon vocals, Batman!
Umm.....We've also heard reports that a 12-piece Bavarian Polka band are working on a version but these are still unconfirmed at this time...That said, at this point, we wouldn't be terribly surprised...
PS If you know of any other worthy covers, let us know!
