Shaun White unleashed his Double McTwist 1260 at the Winter Olympics this week, and rode it to his second gold medal in the men's halfpipe. At this point, it's safe to say that White is operating at a different level than his snowboarding peers. He is not only the standard bearer; he is creating new standards, as this relatively young sport continues to evolve, pushing the envelope of what's considered possible on a snowboard.

The scary part is, at 23 years old, he may be just getting warmed up. Sounds cliche, but in Sean's case, the sky really is the limit.

But have you ever wondered what goes into learning a new trick? Especially one that nobody else on the planet has ever even imagined, much less tried?
White's Double McTwist involves three and a half twists ON TOP of two backflips before landing. He developed the move himself, with a secluded halfpipe in the Colorado Rockies serving as his own personal test lab. It's sort of like when Bruce Wayne goes up to the mountains to learn the art of combat...
Here's the trick in all its splendor. Just hit play and admire. It's not every day you get to watch something totally original.

“ Man this guy is the shiiiiiizzz. He's so smiley all the time and he's humble. It's great to see someone like him on the top of his game. He deserves it. And how sick that he's got his own private half-pipe! So sick. ”
