Ah, South By Southwest Music week is finally upon us.
Industry folk will tell you it's a "conference", but, in reality, it more closely resembles five days of thinly-guided musical anarchy, as artists across multiple genres descend on Austin, Texas to perform multiple shows in and around the city's 6th Street, for both fans and industry professionals alike, for five days straight.
We'll be bringing you coverage of the party all week, but as we pack our suitcases and ready our e-tickets, we can hardly contain our excitement about seeing certain artists. And today, we're fixating on the bearded lovelies of Band Of Horses; a group so obsessed with refining their craft in its live form that since they've hit the road on March 15, they won't really be seeing home again til summer.
Also? They sound like no one else: delicate, ethereal but edgy, with a rare emotional depth and subtlety. Check out one of their finest moments - "The Funeral", taken from 2006's awe-inspiring Everything All The Time (out through legendary Seattle label, Sub Pop):
A year later, they blew us away with Cease To Begin (also on Sub Pop), and now we're chomping at the bit to hear their third album, Infinite Arms, out this May. Needless to say, we're looking forward to seeing them this week - their live shows have a reputation for being emotional affairs, so we're packing our hankies...
If you're attending SXSW, you can catch Band Of Horses on March 18th at Stubb's Barbeque and on March 19th at the Central Presbyterian Church. We'll see you there.

“ I think I saw Band of Horses last year at Coachella with my ex-fiancé, Bobby. Our favorite song was, "Noone's Going to Love You as Much as I Will". Then he left me when I got really sick last summer and met a French pro-skier. Won't do that ever again. I like this "Funeral" song, it reminds me of last year. I miss last year. ”
