Who doesn't want to hang out with a bunch of dudes in giraffe masks? Seriously....unless you're watching that bit in "The Shining" where that hog-bear-beast-man is canoodling in a room with a be-suited toff... but we digress.
The mysterious new trio Miike Snow (yes there's two "ii"s and no, we don't know why) caught our eyes this year for their undulating, laid-back electro and reggae-infused pop; they're like the peanut-butter and jelly sandwich of indie pop - with jams (pun intended) that are so homey, comforting, and mellow you just want to slather their waves of sound all over you.
Then, this summer they unleashed "Animal" on us, which featured giraffe masks in the video, (way to find the most direct path to our hearts). Best bit yet was they also provided a F.R.E.E. to download over at Amazon.com.
In case you haven't indulged already, check it:
And while you probably think they're new to you right now, we'll surprise you with revealing that two thirds of Miike Snow - Pontus Winnberg and Kristian Carlsson - co-wrote and produced Britney Spears's 2004 Grammy-winning hit, "Toxic", under the moniker Bloodshy & Avant.
They've also worked with Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and even goth-rock up-and-comers Vampire Weekend, who unleashed their dance side on "The Kids Don't Stand A Chance" as Vampire Weekend VS Miike Snow. Even though there's not an actual video available, the track itself is too good not to share with you:
Bottom line is, we can't wait to see what this prolific threesome have up their sleeves for us next.
Their self-titled debut album came out last June, through the omnipotent indie label Downtown Records, and we've had it on repeat ever since. And not just because it reminded us to dig out our old Peter Gabriel and The Police records. (Or maybe it is.)
