These bikes are not made for single-geared hipsters, but for those who are environmentally conscious, the electric bike is a fun, yet eco-friendly solution (you can even find them at your nearest Walmart or Best Buy). Not only does every rider commuting to and from work via bicycle (whether peddling or electric) significantly reduces his/her carbon footprint, it's great a great combo of work-out and motor.
Here are a few samples:

A more classic take - the Schwinn Electric bike, Campus Edition - with a removeable, rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The advantage of this bike? It has pedals, so you can ride it as a conventional bike when you're in the mood to break a sweat.
ABOVE: A prototype by auto-maker Volkswagon called bik.e unveiled in China this year. It is a foldable design of form and function - i.e. you can fold it up and take it on the bus.

The Mantra MS1 by Mantra Sports - this bike can get up to 60 miles on one charge. It's modular design makes it feel like a small motorcycle.
