The robot aliens of the new & noisy Transformers movie made such a huge splash at the box office this summer that it created a frenzy in the toys aisle. Meanwhile, the long limbed half-model, half-metal-aliens from Bruce Willis' new action film Surrogates are looming down from billboards everywhere. And in cyberspace, people are Robo.to-ing left and right.
Below are tangible examples of how androids are inspiring art, fashion and design. Never before have Robots invaded our human civilization with such civility and style!

ROLL-OH
Before we go any further, here's a slice of history that'll show you that bots didn't always have such a good rep. This funny video, premiered at the New York World's Fair in 1940, was actually produced to vulgarize how relays and switches function in the modern automobile.

MUSEUM OF ROBOTS
Fast forward to now. This wooden flying saucer bowl is really fly, isn't it?

It's part of a new line of housewares and acessories created by a cool brand called Museum of Robots, the brainchild of Bay Area designers Richard and Vicki Küng. These peeps are so into androids that they created a virtual museum dedicated to the appreciation of robots on Second Life. Check it out!
PS. There once was a REAL Robot Museum in Nagoya, Japan, but it closed down in 2007.

ROBOT ART
Munich-based André Kutscherauer is specialized in 3D art, motions and stills. The picture below, titled 'Selfillumination', is a great example of well-executed robot madness. :)

RUNNING ROBOT
This sick 3D environment video is a Spec commercial inspired by NIKE's 'Just do it' motto. Watch for the robot's shoes!

Have you window shopped around New York's Meatpacking District lately?

You'll discover Stella McCartney has dressed up the mannequins in her flagship store with the cutest robot helmets! So awesome!

ROBO.TO
And lest we forget, a few months ago, we introduced robo.to and asked you guys to unleash your inner robot! You guys did a great job last week during the Fashion Friday Style contest.
Keep on going crazy with the application! It's good for the soul!
