Tuesday Tunes: Beyonce Covers and Collabs

Ta-da! Finally, the new (and much awaited) Beyonce & Lady Gaga collaboration in the video "Video Phone" arrived today. Between the fake guns, bobble-headed men with cameras for brains, two-stepping, Lady Gaga & Beyonce dance-collabs, and a lot of latex catsuits, there's a whole lot going on; it is quite titillating!
But while we know Beyonce has been an inspiration for many, it was quite surprising to hear this "Halo" cover by the UK indie band, Florence And The Machine. The vocals are courtesy of Florence Welch, a singer who is fiery in spirit, attitude and coiffure. We first featured Florence And the Machine in our post British Invasion In Heels where we profiled our top picks of up-and-coming female Brit musicians. And while Flo is usually into more soul and folked based ballads, she really seems to throw herself into this live version of Beyonce's Halo:
In comparison, here's the devilishly majestic diva Beyonce performing it live at the NAACP awards:
Do you think personas like Gaga or Florence and The Machine come close to competing with Beyonce? Or are both videos simply further evidence of Beyonce's majesty?
Then again, we love all of them so maybe we should lay off the philosophizing and just hit repeat.
