Back in 1998, Mos Def and Talib Kweli performed together at the now-legendary Black Star. In the ten-plus years since then, Def has found wider fame as an actor (both on Broadway, and in the likes of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy and as Chuck Berry in Cadillac Records) while maintaining his position as a key figure in hip-hop, and Kweli has continued to fight to have his socio-political stances heard through his music. Now? They're back with "History" courtesy of Downtown Records.....and it's a mighty combo.
Check them out layin' down "the law like Leviticus" on "History":
Mos Def - "History" (ft. Talib Kweli) from Downtown Music on Vimeo.
Some background: "History" is taken from Mos Def's latest - and fourth - album, The Ecstatic (out now through Downtown Records), while Talib Kweli has been busy collaborating with old friend Hi-Tek on new Reflection Eternal material, most recently the single "Back Again." New album Revolutions Per Minute is imminent and our ears are getting twitchy just thinking about it.
And if all this smooth hip-hop ain't enough for ya, keep in mind you'll be able to catch Mos Def in four - yes, four! - upcoming movies in 2010 and beyond.
Brings new meaning to the term Def Jam?

“I absolutely love Esmee. I think that she has the potential to the next 'Britney Spears." All she has to do is to work on her dance moves, and she will be the queen of pop someday soon. I also like Matt Morris and admire his personal life.”
