WTF?! Fatboy Slim And David Byrne Join Forces For Concept Record

We wanted to tell you about this a couple of weeks ago, but it's so bizarre and utterly random, we figured it was best to wait until after April Fool's Day, so you'd know we weren't making it up.

Okay. You ready for this?

Remember Fatboy Slim? Rad British DJ/producer guy who had a string of big hits a few years ago? And who has a penchant for making amazing videos? (Like the time he got Christopher Walken to tap dance his way through "Weapon Of Choice", and the hilarious time he got a ramshackle flash mob together to dance outside a movie theater for "Praise You"). Yeah. That guy.

And do you also remember David Byrne? Musical legend, new wave icon, ex-Talking Heads frontman and all-round avante garde artiste? He's pretty unforgettable.

Well, these two musical guerrillas have just joined forces and written a concept album, titled Here Lies Love. Which is about - and here's where it gets really weird - the life of Imelda Marcos; the glamorous and notoriously extravagant wife of corrupt Phillipines President, Ferdinand Marcos, who was in power for over twenty years.

It's not often that we're rendered speechless by a musical project, but this one left us scratching our heads. A lot.

Then we listened to the first single (featuring guest vocals from Santigold) and, while it's definitely weird, it's also pretty darn awesome. Check it out:

Here Lies Love - a double CD, naturally - came out on April 6, through Nonesuch Records and features guest vocals from the likes of Tori Amos, Florence Welch (of Florence And The Machine), Cyndi Lauper, Roisin Murphy, Sia, Natalie Merchant and a host of other great (and fiercely individual) artists.

We have no idea how they came up with all this, but we sure are glad they did...
