PARIS ON THE MIND
- Posted on: Saturday June 20, 2009 at 10:00 AM
PARIS SPICE:
Professional-rogue-hedonist/photographer-extraordinaire Terry Richardson did a sick shoot on his provocative fantasy land, Paris the city of lights, in the June/July 09 Vogue Paris:
It's damn naughty, damn spicy...
It's little surprise the whole spread was in fact titled..."A toutes jambes"...(i.e. all legs)....
SWEET PARIS:
In contrast are these sun-blissed, lo-fi shots of Paris by Alicia Bock. (psst you can purchase lil copies on her site as well.)
Kind of feels like she's looking at Paris through rose-colored glasses, non?
Tis damn SWEET....
Now the question is, are you feeling SWEET? Or SPICY?
We wanna know.....

Kick-Ass Kicks!
- Posted on: Wednesday August 5, 2009 at 2:00 PM
Great footwear = half your outfit. This is especially true when it comes to Fall fashion, so we thought we'd plan our 'back to shool' look from the bottom up instead of the other way around. Here are 5 new pairs of kicks that caught our attention. What do you think of them?
THE PROGRESSIVE LOOK: Love Brigade X Rob Roy X Converse
Without a doubt, this pair of jet black Chuck Taylors is the runaway hit of the Summer.

Perfect for a night out in the park, these punky kicks were brilliantly custom-designed by Brooklyn-based coop Love Brigade to celebrate the album release of Florida native singer & songwriter Rob Roy. Groupies not included. ;-)
THE ARTSY LOOK: Basquiat X Reebok
Just when we thought we'd overdose if we saw any more graffiti art on pumps, Reebok comes up with an interesting new tribute piece: playful Top Downs sneakers inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat neo-expressionist, urban paintings. Now these are collectible.

THE MODERN CLASSIC LOOK: Tretorn's Skymra
Ok, so we all need extravaganza once in a while, but the keyword of a healthy wardrobe is: balance. This elegant, mimimalist shoe from Tretorn is constructed out of rich leather, and it features elastic straps instead of the usual shoelaces. A perfect middle ground between classic and modern styles. We're glad they kept the studs!

Pssst - check out the Tretorn giveaway on this.hearts.on.fire.
THE CRAFTY LOOK: Holy F Designs
What first reminded me of a funky Ed Hardy-like design is in fact the meticulous work of Bangalore-based designer Bhakti Dakshinamurthy, who started her line of hand crafted sneakers, HolyF, under the premise that shoes are 'not something you wear, but something you dare'. We like women with an attitude. Via Highsnobette.com

THE SUNNY LOOK: Lacoste Dot Fade pack
Oh, summer ain’t over ‘til it’s over... Here’s our girliest pick. We can't get enough of gradient design in fruity Starburst-esque colors. Perfect for a sunny day on the golf course! Via SneakerFreaker.com

Daring Summer Festival Fashion

'Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn." - Gore Vidal
In this summer festival season, our female musical muses are showing their true colors on open air stages around the world. While Cyndi Lauper once lamented "Somebody did complain to me and tell me that my clothes were so loud they couldn't hear me sing," we beg to differ. These clothes serve to further propel the spirit behind the music and the creativity behind each performer. Imbued with color and confidence, they are easy inspiration for any girl who just wants to have fun...............

THE REBEL: Geisha-inspired Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is known for swallowing microphones. Her stage costumes that are as loud as her actions.

THE TOMBOY: Gwen Stefani rocks the punk prep, with a collared skirt and yet studded belt and twisted braids.

Sexy Cat: Lily Allen has been sporting fairy-like eye shadow, tight spandex and flowing scarves and tops. A lil innocent, a lil loose, a lil sex kitten...

All American Southern Belle: Jenny Lewis in red, white and blue. Like her acoustic odes, her fashion sense is sweeter than a Southern peach.

Retro Rock: Katy Perry has been styling fitting doll-like retro dresses - full of bows, pock-a-dots and pink pink and more pink. This style is best-suited for curvy frames and girls who truly belive they are made of sugar and spice and all things nice.

Avante Garde Punk: It don't matter if you are man, woman, black or white; Grace Jones is an icon for challenging any and all stereotypes. This time round, she's taking one of the most famous symbols of rebellion - the Mohawk - and taking it to new heights, slicking back the texture, and pushing it down so it is in your face and stunning. Now if we recommend to try this at home is another story....
