Dallas Braden Throws Baseball's 19th Perfect Game

The scoreboard told the story.
We'd like to take a moment to honor Dallas Braden of the Oakland A's, who threw the 19th perfect game in Major League Baseball history on Sunday, May 9th, Mother's Day, against the first place Tampa Bay Rays. After all, this is the same player who took exception with Alex Rodriguez during a game earlier this season for stepping on 'his' [Braden's] pitching mound during a game. The whole thing was, frankly, a bit of an afterthought at the time, prompting Rodriguez to dismissively say of the pitcher, "He just told me to get off his mound. I was a little surprised. I'd never quite heard that. Especially from a guy that has a handful of wins in his career... I thought it was pretty funny actually."
True, Braden is a sub-.500 pitcher. This perfect game marked only the 18th win in Braden's brief Major League career (he has 23 losses). But history is history, and for one day, at least, Dallas Braden was beyond reporach. He was perfect.
Here is the final out of this historic accomplishment.
27 batters faced, 27 outs. It sounds so simple. But when a video game company offers up $1 million to the first gamer to accomplish the feat in a video game, it gives you an idea of what, exactly, Dallas Braden accomplished this Sunday past.
Braden's mother passed away when Braden was just a teenager. Thus, he shared this Mother's Day moment with his grandmother, Peggy Lindsey, who took in her grandson and raised him.

Dallas Braden and his grandmother Peggy Lindsey share a Mother's Day moment for the ages.
When asked, Rodriguez said all the right things: “Good for him.” Rodriguez said. “He threw a perfect game, and even better, he beat the Rays.”
Braden's grandmother was not so gracious. "Stick it, A-Rod," she said after the game. Seems the fiery pitcher is a chip off the ol' block.

The Imaginarium of Illustrator/Photographer Ben Heine

Check out this humourous series by Ben Heine called "Pencil vs. Camera" - a huge hit on Flickr, with a touch of comedic surrealism to calm your nerves and make you laugh. The idea concidentally emerged whilst Ben was writing a letter and watching TV (Ben noticed the relationship between the transparency of the paper and Primetime behind). Ever since, the series has taken off :

The photographs come from his own stock library. When asked how he chooses his "pencil" illustrations, Ben states "There are no rules. There mustn’t be. Imagination and creativity are the leitmotif."

Ben has made a point in a lot of the images to incorporate a more surrealist perpective (i.e. cat with two eyes, UFO in the sky, dynosaurs in the city) for comedic relief.
