What Goes Around, Comes Around
When thinking about the direction for the “What Goes Around, Comes Around” video, acclaimed director Sam Bayer and Justin felt it should be big. As Bayer put it a, "Thriller for the new generation." From this, the video evolved into a mini-action film. They cast real actors, even enlisting Scarlett Johansson to play the female lead. Nick Cassavetes, the writer/director of Justin's movie Alpha Dog, was brought in to write dialogue.
Bayer cut all staging for the scene and shot it hand-held, allowing the actors to work organically. Quick trivia: Justin walked away with a broken finger and Johansson with a bruise from the action-packed set.
The video debuted exclusively on iTunes and sold 50,000 copies within four days of the release. "What Goes Around, Comes Around" also earned Sam Bayer a 2007 MTV Video Music Award for Best Direction.
